Linear position sensors are also commonly known worldwide as redheads, encoders and transducers. The alternative of the linear position sensor is a relative sensor that provides measurement for 360 degree. The position sensors, help in the process of monitoring certain movement of a component and provides an analog or digital signaling by displaying it on the monitor controller of the sensor. Any industry that depends mainly on the positioning of an object makes the best use of this device. The position sensors commonly find a various types of use in the scanners, calipers and robotics.

Position sensors includes optical, magnetic and various other complex types. There are a large number of position sensors, for example capacitive type, which is a form of non-conduct measurement. The types of scale which is to be used in the position sensors are determined on what is being monitored. Inductive sensors are also a type of non-conductors that shows the change of any kind of resistance effectively in a coil. The position sensors which are non-conductors in nature do not require any physical contact between the signal providing device and the element that is being sensed. The ultrasonic position sensors act as transmitters which transform the electrical energy into acoustic energy.
